Cross Country Update
By Sydney Schultz
The Seton Cross Country team placed 20th out of 28 teams this year at the Mason Invitational. They rivaled against the #1 ranked teams from Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio.
Junior Gabby Hirlinger finished 64th with a time of 20:26 and senior Kaylie Brown finished 87th at 21:01. Junior Olivia Hess finished 21:41, senior Abby Pace 22:06, and Maria Visconti not far behind with a finishing time of 22:11. These top 5 runners scored for the team.
Freshman Janie Reiter finished as Seton’s 6th runner in 22:27. Sophomore Jessica Hayhow came in at 22:50 and senior Sydney Schultz followed finishing at 22:59. Hayhow and Schultz both ran lifetime personal record.
The team struggled without their number two varsity runner, senior Brooke Schleben. Schleben did not run due to severe back pain. Schleben said, “My back pain has been an issue for a while now. I hope it gets better soon so I can get back out on the course.”
The girls in the Open Race finished 14th out of 30 teams. Coming off an injury and racing for the first time this year, sophomore Taylor Frommeyer ran courageously and finished first on Seton’s team at 23:36, finishing in 78th place. Sophomore Kaitlyn Fields and junior Molly Henderson finished 23:57 and 23:59. Freshman Lydia Brigham ran 24:40.2 and then sophomore Allie Holmes finished in 24:40.3.
Next week the team competes nearby in the Covington Catholic Invitational at DeVou Park. The Open race will be at 9:30 and the Varsity will run at 11:00. Come support Seton Cross Country!
