The Seton Cross Country team took a road trip down to Tom Sawyer Park, in Louisville, Kentucky where they raced extremely well in the Trinity Valkyrie Invitational on September 21. Even though seven of the seniors were absent taking the ACT, the team decided to step up and fill their missing places. Many lifetime personal records were made.
In the Open Race, Lydia Brigham finished in 22:47, cutting 1:53 off of her previous personal record. Allie Holmes cut 1:10 off her previous season best and finished in 23:04. Emily Hatting ran a personal record of 23:24. Kaitlyn Fields lowered her personal record and crossed the finish line at 23:29. Lauren Heideman ran hard, finishing at 23:37. Al-Nisa Gilbert ran her first 5k race in 26:01. Sammie Moore finished at 24:13, finishing 2:26 faster than her previous race. Each girl on the team continues to improve every week.
The Varsity team finished 25 out of 44 teams. Gabby Hirlinger was Seton’s first runner and ran a sub 20 minute finish. Gabby finished in 66th place with a lifetime personal record of 19:55. Olivia Hess also ran in the 20:00’s, finishing at 20:40. Maria Visconti, coming back from an injury, finished as Seton’s third runner at 21:57. Jessica Hayhow lowered her personal record by 40 seconds to finish in 22:10. Jessica Rieskamp tied her lifetime best at 22:47. Molly Henderson finished 54 seconds faster than her previous season best.
Seniors Kaylie Brown and Abby Pace ran the St. Timothy 5K road race after completing the ACT on Saturday. Kaylie ran 21:25, and Abby ran 4 seconds faster on the road than she has on grass so far this season, finishing in 21:58.
The entire team will compete next on Sepetember 28 at the Kettering Fairmont Firebird Invitational at Indian Ripple Park.
