Seton Cross Country Runs Last Regular Season Meet
By Sydney Schultz
The Seton Cross Country team went up to Worthington, Ohio to compete in their last regular season meet on Saturday, October 5. The set up for this meet was different than usual. The number of runners entered in this meet was higher than a normal. Therefore, JV, open, and varsity races were turned into a freshman and sophomore open race, a junior and senior open race, and a girls varsity race.
Senior Julz Lucas ran in the junior and senior open race finishing in 24:50. Senior Jessica Wuebbolt ran a lifetime personal record and crossed the finish line in 25:05. First-year runner and senior Mikayla Hartoin ran her second best time of the season in 25:08. Junior Emily Hatting twisted her ankle earlier in the week, but still competed in the race.
Junior Olivia Hess finished as Seton’s first varsity runner, crossing the finish line with a time of 21:00. Senior Kaylie Brown was Seton’s second runner, finishing in 21:31. Sophomore Maria Visconti ran a life time personal record of 21:47. Senior Abby Pace finished as Seton’s fourth runner in 22:01. Freshman Lydia Brigham ran in her first varsity race this weekend and ran a life time personal record of 22:18. Jessica Hayhow, Jessica Rieskamp, and Molly Henderson worked together to finish the race.
Junior Gabby Hirlinger did not run due to some shin pain. The coaches wanted her to rest before the GGCL meet this upcoming Saturday. Senior Sydney Schultz was also unable to make the trip due to illness.
Reflecting on her injuries, Hirlinger said “I was upset that I couldn’t run in this race because of the pain I was having in my shins, but because our GGCL meet is right around the corner I knew it was the best thing to do for myself and for the team. I am being careful about my training for the rest of the season because I want to do well in GGCL’s, districts, and hopefully regionals.”
Sophomore Allie Holmes led the way in the freshmen and sophomore race, finishing in 24:01. Sophomores Mackenzie Dugan and Kaitlyn Fields worked together the entire race as they finished as Seton’s second and third runners in 24:25 and 24:27. Sophomore Isabella Timon finished in 24:32. Lauren Heideman was Seton’s seventh runner, finishing in 25:01. Sammie Moore, Mia Bianco, and Mary Beth Miller ran smart races despite the mud and humidity
The Saints compete next Saturday at Rapid Run Park for the GGCL Championships. This could potentially be the last League Meet at Rapid Run. This is one of Seton’s most important meets.
The JV race starts at 11:45, varsity at 12:15, and open at 12:45.
