Power of the Purse
By Alissa Allison
Power of the Purse is a fundraiser held in Seton’s gym to raise money for activities that fulfill the school’s mission. This year it was held on Thursday, November 7 starting at 7:00 pm. Many alumni made reservations along with friends and other family members. Tickets cost $40, the price included food and drinks and one raffle ticket. For $5 attendees were able to purchase another raffle ticket. Since the holidays are right around the corner this was a perfect opportunity to purchase a nice purse for a fraction of the sticker price. Live and silent auctions were held to bid on designer purses. Over 50 different designer purses were a part of the selection; including Coach, Kate Spade, and Cole Haan. Other prizes were given out like a chance for a manicure and pedicure. All of the proceeds went to Seton for a to fund activities While chatting with friends, music was provided. Senior Lindsey Hendricks who volunteered at the event said “”I modeled the purses during the auction with some friends. We had fun and the purses were going for good prices!” Other Seton girls sold raffle tickets and helped out at different booths.
Starting at 7 pm the Choral Ensemble performed while food and drinks were served. Raffles were sold and the silent auction began. Later, at 8 pm, the live auction for the designer purses started. At 9 pm the silent auction was ended and the DJ began to play.
About 185 women attended and $20,000 was raised. Overall it was a success and provides positive light for Seton. Every year people enjoy themselves while maybe buying a loved one a gift or a little something for themselves. It really is the power of the purse to attract women all ages to join together to raise money to fulfill Seton’s mission.
