One Rocking Senior Project
By Molly Brauch
Seton students are known for their good music taste, right? Victoria Hancock certainly hopes so. Hancock loves learning about local bands. For her Senior Project, Victoria Hancock is hosting a concert at The Underground, and she’s arranging the entire event by herself.
“I have always been fascinated with the idea of music and the music industry,” says Hancock, a die-hard music lover. Last spring, Hancock and other fans of the band BoyMeetsWorld convinced Seton’s prom committee to hire them to perform at prom. Girls loved the band, and Hancock enjoyed seeing her friends, both on and offstage, bursting with energy. Still, booking a band for prom and organizing an entire concert are two completely different feats. Even this early on in the process, Hancock is running into problems. “One band broke up after I asked if they were interested… no wonder they never responded to me!” Hancock declares with a laugh. And after working with the owner of The Underground for one show, Hancock already knows how tough being in charge can be. Just about everything that went wrong that night that could have – drink machines were breaking, toilets were clogged, and the bands at the performance were being divas., “It is a handful to run the night,” Hancock stated.
For Victoria Hancock’s own concert, she is using her contacts in the music industry to book The Underground for a night. Her concert is March 1, 2014. The doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7:30pm. Despite having difficulties with some bands, Hancock has already booked BoyMeetsWorld and Setback, and at least two other bands, possibly three, are considering performing that night. Tickets for the event can be purchased from Hancock and the cost is $8.00. The money goes to pay the bands that are hired for the night. Victoria Hancock is exceptionally excited about this event. “I’m thrilled to get to work more closely with these bands,” she says. “I’m even skipping our Christmas Dance to go to a concert and get to work on booking some of the other bands. I know this show is going to rock!” So, Saints, purchase your tickets today! This is one show you don’t want to miss.
