Seton Varsity Dance Team Brings Home Wins
By Taylor Morano
The Seton Highlighter Varsity Dance Team earned two first place finishes at last weekend’s competition in Detroit. The team performed at a local high school in Detroit. Competing against 18 other teams, Seton came in first place in their pom routine and first place with their jazz routine in which they competed against nine other teams.
The Seton Dance Team considers this competition a “mini nationals” because of the size of the competition. Competitions like these are good preparation and practice. The large competition and large crowd setting prepares the team for bigger competitions. Senior varsity dancer, Megan Kelly says, “It’s pretty stressful walking into a competition with that many teams, but it’s absolutely nothing compared to the 80 teams at nationals. Even though big competitions like Michigan are awesome, honestly every performance and every competition is preparation for our main event, which is Nationals.”
This year the UDA National Dance Team Championships will be held on February 1 and 2 in Orlando, Florida. Last year the Varsity Team competed in the super competitive Small Varsity Pom and Jazz divisions. They made the finals in both Pom and Jazz divisions finishing 14th in Jazz and 3rd in Pom which was their highest finish ever and earned them the Bronze Medal.
