Seton Swimming Makes Waves

Thursday, December 12, the Seton Swim team reigned best of the west champions for the fifth consecutive year. All the way to the last event, the Aqua Saints lead by ten, winning for a total score of 359. The Saints swam against local schools: Taylor, Oak Hills, Mercy, Fairfield, Colerain, McAuley, and Cincinnati Christian.
To start the winnings off, Senior Sam Smith placed third in diving. The Saints finished top in the 200 Medley Relay finishing with a time of 1:58.38. Senior Lindsey Niehaus swam back, senior Kelley Kraemer swam breast, and sophomore Jessica Hayhow with fly and sophomore Allie Bihl finished the relay with free.
Kraemer also had a shutout in the 200 IM, finishing first with a time of 2:21.55. Kraemer said, “Overall as a team I think we achieved our individual goals. We had some great swims and finished hard.” Niehaus brought it home for the Saints in her 100 yard backstroke; she finished first with a time of 1:00.10. The Saints first started their title during the 2009-2010 swim season. This year they closed out Best of the West ten points ahead of Fairfield.
On Saturday, December 14, the team beat Walnut Hills High School with a total points of 86. The saints were up two points by the 400 meter free relay; Niehaus brought it home for the saints finishing with a time of 3:59.36.
The team looks forward to their next meet on January 3 against Mercy at Gamble Nippert YMCA, the meet starts at 5:30 p.m.
