Canned Food Drive Contest
By Jessica Wuebbolt
In honor of Catholic Schools week, Seton will participate in a week long canned food drive during the week of January 27. All of the goods collected will go to support Holy Family parish. To encourage students to bring in items, there will be a contest between the grades. Students will earn points for their homeroom for items brought in. Once the homeroom earns 500 points they will earn a mechanical pig that the homeroom will decorate and enter into the second annual pig race. The date of the all school pig race is still to be determined. The homeroom that wins the race will receive a free cookie.
Homerooms will earn one point for each canned food item. Two points for personal hygiene/toiletries. Three points for clothes. Coats and blankets are worth four points. Executive board president, senior Kelly Gallagher says, “The executive board is really excited to bring back the fun competitive event for this year. We hope that the girls are just as excited for the pig race as we are.” In order to keep count of all the points, each grade’s homeroom representative, president and vice president will collect all the goods in the storage room at the ground floor and calculate the points every day before school. Turning in all the goods will take place between 7:45-8 a.m. during Catholic Schools week.
Not only will students be helping Holy Family out, but they also will have the chance to win incentives. The winning grade will receive an out of uniform day. The top three homerooms will get a breakfast.
