GGCL Recap: Swim & Dive

Wednesday, January 29, the Seton Varsity Swim Team competed in the Girls Greater Catholic League Championship. The Varsity Team finished fourth overall with a final score of 140 points.

Coach Anne Hayhow said, “All three of our relays had their season best times, and 24 out of 31 swims for our team were lifetime best times!” The 200 Yard Medley Relay composed of Seniors Lindsey Niehaus (Back)and Kelley Kraemer (Breast), followed by Sophomores Jessica Hayhow (Fly) and Allie Bihl (Free), finished with a time of 1:57.39.  The relay finished in third place earning a total of 24 points for the Saints.

The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay also placed third finishing with a time of 1:44.96. The Relay involved Seniors Lindsey Niehaus and Maggie Freudiger, and Sophomores Allie Bihl and Jessica Hayhow.  Senior Kelley Kraemer placed fourth in both individual events of 200 Yard IM and 100 Yard Breaststroke. Kraemer said, “GGCL’s are a good indicator of improvement from last season and pave the way for our championship meets the next three weeks.” Lindsey Niehaus placed second individually in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 59.60. The Saints ended with the 400 Yard Relay, consisting of Seniors Lindsey Niehaus, Kelley Kraemer, and Maggie Fruediger followed by Sophomore Jessica Hayhow ending with a time of 3:54.62. This meet was the final meet for most to the end of the 2014 season. Junior Hannah Fricke said, ““I couldn’t have asked to end the season in a better way.”

In GGCL Diving, Senior Samantha Smith placed second overall with a high score of 177.90 earning a total of 13 points. Sophomore Sydney Hoffmann ranked sixth in competition with a score of 158.40 earning 9 points. Freshman Hannah Schwaeble had a total score of 148.90 gaining 2 points. The diving competition earned a grand total of 24 points to add to the Saints lead heading into the swim meet.
