On Thursday, February 6, senior Sam Smith advanced to districts in diving after competing in sectionals. Teams from all over the tri-state competed at Miami University for sectionals. The top twenty-four divers moved onto districts. Sam Smith was fourteenth. Her score was 317 for an 11 dive meet at sectionals which is her personal record. During this meet she performed eleven dives since it was bigger completion. Smith says, “Our whole team worked so hard this year, I’m happy this year I’m at districts with a teammate.” Currently Sam Smith has the highest sectional score beating Mo Carolin’s score of 316 from last year.
Smith has been working hard all season for this chance at districts. She has been practicing with Elder and Mercy divers twice a week at UC. This is not Smith’s first time at districts. As a sophomore she earned 24th place. She also was an alternative her junior year.
Smith currently has been on the diving team all four years and encourages all students to join the diving team next year. She says, “Freshman year was my first time ever diving and I feel like I’ve learned a lot since then. Throughout my four years I was able to improve my diving skills so much.”
Congrats to senior Sam Smith on advancing to districts which was held on Wednesday, February 12at Miami University!
