As the seasons change, so does fashion- hair, make up, clothing. If you are into keeping up with the trends, it’s not hard to surf the internet and go through magazines to see what’s in and what’s not. New York Fashion Week ended recently and many big designers and name brands walked their spring/summer 2014 collection down the runways. In addition to clothes, they featured make-up. Here are a few trends that were picked up on. DNKY was one of the many designers that wore a vivid orange lip. If you are not up for such a statement, other runways like Michael Kors worked a lighter lip. Make-up artists used softer berry tones, but you can always brighten it up if preferred. A minimal make up look was matched with both of these looks. At Phillip Lim skin was given a soft glow. Moisturizer is essential when applying foundation, illuminator, bronzer, etc. To highlight the face make-up artists applied skinlights in bronze at the cheeks, bridge of nose, and forehead. Depending on what color lips or eyes you are wearing you can always apply a pink blush to the cheeks to brighten up your look. Moving onto eyes there were various colors and shapes noticed. Using a black eye liner (liquid might be best) creating a cat-eye is in. This consists of extending the shape of your eye out past your eye lid. You can start all the way from the inner eye or start more in the middle of your lash line. If you get a little shaky or smear it’s easily fixable. Dip a cotton swab in make-up remover and fix the edges. This can dress up a face if you have a light lip, or if you want to be bold and pair it with the orange lip. A less dark feature on the eyes was shown in Jenny Packham and Alice + Olivia. Over the eyelids were a pallet of shimmery whites and very light pinks. The artists even used a white liner to outline the inside corners of the eyes to really brighten the look. Another light color on the lid but still a “pop” was the light green with a hint of yellow across the whole lid. Jason Wu was different than the previously mentioned shows because hee decided to take a bold metallic look on the eye. First in the creases, the artists smudged a dark brown shadow and then took a brown liner to the top of the lashes. This creates depth and almost a smokey eye. Next, a brown eye shadow is brushed over the eye lid. For a final touch a gold glitter was put onto the lid. This stunning look is for the bold and daring.
These are just some of the different styles spotted for the upcoming seasons. These looks may not be for everyone, but it’s okay to try something new and play around with color. Highlight your best features and make sure you are using colors right for you. For more tips go ahead and watch tutorials on YouTube, they are addicting and very helpful. Makeup is a way to express oneself, not to cover up your one-of- a- kind face.
