On Wednesday April 9, the Seton Varsity Track Team competed at the Coaches Classic prelims held at Ross High School. The goal for the team was to come in the top four in every event to make it to the finals on Friday March 11 at Winton Woods High School. While Seton girls were competing at Ross, there were four other locations where other schools in the city were competing for top four in their events too , in hopes of moving on to Friday at Winton Woods.

Seton ended up qualifying in sixteen out of the seventeen events that will take place at finals, which is a huge accomplishment. The Seton relays that qualified are the 4×800 with sophomore Stefanie Autenrieb, junior Molly Henderson, and seniors Alissa Allison and Kaylie Brown, the 4×200 and 4×100 with seniors Jess Frey and Samantha Goodwin, sophomore Emilee Poehner, and junior Kelsey Kurzhals,  and the 4×400 with sophomores Stefanie Autenrieb and Jessica Hayhow, junior Maria Torok, and senior Kaylie Brown. The open qualifier consisted of junior Gab Kraemer in the 100m hurdles and high jump, Kurzhals and Frey in both the 100 and 200m dash, junior Gabby Hirlinger in the mile, Torok in the 400m dash, Autenrieb and Brown in the 800 and Junior Olivia Hess in the 2 mile. The field event qualifiers consisted of senior Ellie Hahn in the shot put, sophomore Kaille Brown in the long jump, senior Loretta Blaut in the high jump, and senior Courtney Schira and sophomore Anna Schoster for pole vault. A special shout out goes to  junior Alyssa Ramstetter for not only qualifying for shot put and discus, but for breaking a school record in the discus by throwing a 123’4 that was formerly held by Jessica Miller’s 116’5 in 2002.

When asking the Seton mid- distance coach, Jason Berling about how the season was going, he said, “We are one of the best teams in the city, possibly the region, and we are flying below the radar so I don’t think a lot of people recognize what kind of talent we have on our team.”
