On April 22, 2014 Seton played Mariemont in a lacrosse game at Seton’s home field, West High. The first half of the game, Mariemont was winning, but then the Saints came back in the second half earning four goals and ending the game with the final score of 7-11. Saints put up a good fight but were not able to beat the Eastsiders. Seniors Michelle Moehring and Kelly Gallagher, Juniors Hannah Fricke and Carly Stagge, and Sophomores Cire Brock and Taylor Frommeyer all had helped with one or more goals. Sophomores Lauren Heidiman and Taylor Frommeyer took the draws, which is when the opposing players push the ball against each other’s sticks or up in the air in order to draw to themselves. If the players are tall and can catch well, drawing to themselves can really work. When the ref blows the whistle, the players push their wrist up slightly to “lock” the ball in the player’s stick, then the players pull their stick up and the ball should go over one of the player’s shoulders and one of the teams will receive draw control to bring the ball down to their offense.

Junior Hannah Fricke says, “I think we are off to a great start. We really have had to come together as a team to put up a good competition against other teams, but we are pulling it off. We lost some of our strongest players in the past two years, but our coach has been really impressed on how we’ve played so well together.”

Senior Captain Lindsey Hendricks says, “Sometimes it’s discouraging when the other team is up by so many goals, but our team is really good at boosting each other’s confidence and we typically finish the game strong. We have a problem with playing a whole game, and that is definitely a major thing we will be working on all season. I am so proud though of my team and wouldn’t want to play with any other girls.”

The lacrosse team is 4-5 and still has seven games left including Ursula, Anderson, Bexley, Kings, CCD, Lakota East, and Summit Country Day. Seton’s last home game will be against Saint Ursula on Tuesday, April 29 at 6:15 at West High.  This is also Senior Night.  Saints hope to bring in a big win, especially the seniors who are being honored for playing the past four years. Seniors include, Morgan Masminster, Mikayla Hartoin, Kirby Sullivan, Lindsey Henricks, Michelle Moehring, Colleen O’Connor, and Kelly Gallagher.
