“Are You an Awkward Teenager? Don’t worry, there is Hope”
By: Brooke Zentmeyer
You’ve been dreading this day since January 1st when you looked in the mirror and realized that even though a year had gone by, your old reflection wasn’t replaced by a runway supermodel. Yep, time might have gone by, but your frizzy hair, braces, and so-so skin complexion were there to stay. Which meant, of course, that you would get to capture this unfortunate view of your teenage self on the dreaded…duh…duh…duh…Picture Day! That’s right, folks, mark down the feared date on your calendars for September 18th. Picture Day is coming fast and your awkward teenage face has nowhere to hide.
But, fear not! You are not alone in your struggles. Even celebrities struggled with their photo game during the high school years.
Take for example Blake Lively, or you might know her better as Serena van der Woodsen, in her pre-Gossip Girl days…
It doesn’t look like she started out as the Upper East Side’s It girl but look at all she has done today. These days Blake is looking much more like her Gossip Girl character, which is a far cry from her teenage self.
No wonder the country turned pop star Taylor Swift has to shake it off so often…she’s probably still haunted by memories of the day she took her high school photos…
Now a day’s grown up T-Swizzle has made some slight style adjustments, and is looking like star quality even when she’s getting down to her own sick beat.
However, if you happen to wake up flawless every day since you were a teen such as Beyoncé Knowles did, then please share your secrets with the rest of us lowly mortals before you ascend to your true status as a goddess like Queen Bey herself.
Do you see now? The fact that you have to wear a photo of yourself looking like something that escaped from the zoo on your nametag like a badge of shame for the whole year isn’t a bad thing. In fact, it should encourage you. Bad high school photos are nothing to worry about. If Tay-Tay and Blake can recover from their bad shots, than so can you. And, by some miraculous chance your high school photos turn out amazing, than that just means you have already transcended onto your path of becoming one of the most fabulous things to walk the Earth. Either way, walk with no fear into school and Picture Day and smile big.
