Schwarm’s Stylish Show
By Ashley O’Brien
Could the next Mary Cassatt possibly be a student at Seton High School? Senior Stefanie Schwarm definitely has the potential. For her Senior Project, her goal was to get one of her art pieces into an art gallery. Not only did she accomplish this goal, but she exceeded it.
Schwarm is an Art 4 student and has always had a love for art. Even though she is not considering this field for college, she isn’t ready to stop doing what she loves just yet. She says, “I wanted to go out with a bang and do something out of my comfort zone.” The Senior Project gave her this opportunity.
After a few attempts at completing her goal, Schwarm finally made it into Scholastics, a well-known art competition. However, she wanted something bigger and better. With the help of her mentor, she found a local gallery in Cheviot called Broadhope. With advice from the owner, Schwarm decided to curate her own art show. Broadhope, located on the corner of Glenmore and Harrison, gave Schwarm a room for a whole month in which she was able to design and present a collection of art. Generously, she wanted to share this experience with the rest of the seniors in her art class. Taking one piece of art from each of the seniors and most of her own artwork, she spent the next month decorating and displaying everything to make sure it looked exactly how she wanted it.
On April 20, she had an Open House of her own at the art gallery. Schwarm notes, “The most public I have ever been with my art is the school hallway, so it was a big jump to do this show.”
